Tips when communicating with coaches
- Be proactive - Contact coaches via email or a phone call. Find the program you want to play in and go after it
- Be compliant - follow the rules and regulations of NCAA
- Be accurate - Complete online forms accurately
- Be timely - Do not wait till your Senior year to contact coaches
- Be respectful - address the coach by his name
- Be specific - use the school name in your communication
- Be smart - state why you want to be in their program and why you qualify
- Be thorough - provide an athletic and academic profile:
- Complete name
- Address
- Telephone number
- Email address
- High school name with complete address
- Graduation Date
- College major
- Position(s)
- Awards / leadership roles
- Special sport event(s)
- Years of JV and Varsity experience
- Relevant statistics
- Current coach's name and contact information
- GPA, ACT, or SAT scores and honors
- Be prepared - offer DVD and skills assessment video
- Be available - schedule and location of games or where the coach could see you play
- Be ready - offer recommendations from coaches, teachers, etc. upon request
- Be organized - keep track of who you contacted and when
- Be patient but be persistent - follow through if you don't here from the coach after 30 days
